Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is a British film directed by Danny Boyle written by Simon Beaufoy and co-directed in India by Loveleen Tandan which is released on the 9th January 2008 .It is an adaptation of the novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. The genre of this film is crime, drama and romance. The story lines included in this film are love and money.

The story of this film is about a Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers for all the answers and wins the millions.
The distributers of this film are Pathé Pictures International (UK/Europe), Fox Searchlight Pictures (US/Canada) and Warner Bros. Pictures. The producer of this film is Christian Colson.

Slumdog Millionaire is highly acclaimed, named in the top ten lists of various newspapers. On 22 February 2009 the film won eight out of ten Academy Awards it was nominated for, including the Best Picture and Best Director- Danny Boyle, Best Adapted Screenplay- Simon Beaufoy, Best Cinematography - Anthony Dod Mantle, Best Sound Mixing - Resul Pookutty, Best Film Editing - Chris Dickens, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song (two songs were nominated from the film; "Jai Ho" won the award), losing only Best Sound Editing to The Dark Knight. It is only the eighth film ever to win eight Academy Awards and the eleventh Best Picture Oscar winner without a single acting nomination.

The film has been marketted by putting posters, billboards in the public places, through blogs, websites, etc.

The film was in the London film festival. The festival could hardly have ended in more rousing style. Its closing film, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, was one of a kind liable to send audiences happily skipping out into the cold London night. Yet on paper this British production, partly subtitled and with no stars known in the West, looked an unlikely prospect.
The film also won the People's Choice Award at the end of the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF. it was also in the Telluride Film Festival.

The film is targetted on a larger audience. People from any age can watch this movie. This is one of the main characteristic which made the movie won many Oscars. This movies shows the poverty and the way people are struggling and also shows how an ordinary guy from the slums in India won the millions.

The film also won all four of the Golden Globe Awards it was nominated for, including Best Drama Film; five of the six Critics' Choice Awards for which it was nominated; and seven of the eleven BAFTA Awards for which it was nominated, including Best Film.

The Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack was composed by A. R. Rahman, who planned the score for over two months and completed it in two weeks. Rahman won the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and won two out of three nominations for the Academy Awards, including one for Best Original Score and one for Best Original Song. The song "O... Saya" got a nomination shared with M.I.A., and the song "Jai Ho" won the Oscar, which A. R. Rahman shared with lyricist Gulzar.

There are examples of synergy as when the film was released, there were many ways in which the film was marketted. This might include correlation between different countries which made them work together for the great sucess of the film.

The British Film Production

The producer is the person in the middle of everything. He raises the money, get the props which are needed for the film, allow the direct to put everything on to the screen etc.

To make a good script one should have a good idea; it should have a good relation to the current world. It will be the blue print for the director so it should be something inspiring. This should be a good them or an idea to the audience. To make a good script it will have to rely on the combination on instinct and knowledge. If the script is not good the team won’t be able to work well and will have problems in getting money.

The package of the film includes budget, producer, director, actors, co producers, writer etc.

The actors are the most important factor in a film.

There are different groups which finance for films. There will be different financers for the same films. Sometimes it can be 3, some times it can be 10. The record is 50 people financing in the same film. The finance can also be from other countries. They can together finance for the same film. The people who have invested the full money in a film will be controlling the production.

The whole package tells them how much the film is going to cost. The script also allows the producer to calculate the amount of money which going to cost for the film.

The above line is creative talent package involved in the film which are script Producer, director and team, main actors, cost of creating the story, script, cast and crew, writing etc. where as the Below the line is the Pre production which put together the shoot, photograph, shoot, designers, key actors etc.

The film should have a defined audience. They should relate the film with the audience. They should know who is going to watch the film. The film should be some thing the market will understand and also should choose the particular genre for the particular audience. Taking into consideration about who your audience are, the British production are more into making good film.

UK film council

The UK Film Council is the Government-backed lead agency for film in the UK ensuring that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented at home and abroad.

It is very important for the British to produce its own films even though there are no language issues for British audience with Hollywood films. When British films make its own films it shows their uniqueness, individuality and creates there own identity.

The UK film council fund script development, film production, shot films, film distribution and export, film education, festivals, skills development, national and regional film agencies. In my opinion UK film council should fund for all kind of films. As UK is a country where we can find people from different ethnicity, religion and culture who have different tastes, it will be a great benefit if we fund for all types of films as it will cover a large audience. I think that the genres like action, romance, horror and comedy should be given highly importance.

The five types of films which my organisation will fund are Action, Romance, Horror, Comedy, dramas. Some of the examples of action films are Spiderman, dark night etc. These genres will help our organisation to gain more profit.

The other film related activities the UK film council support could be providing more independent cinemas, funding for more film festivals, fund for drama/film clubs which will help the children to get to know and experience more about the film industry.
